Why emf Switchboards?

Our focus is to maximize our customers' efficiency on-site through innovation and longevity of our switchboards, driven by exceptional customer service rather than our own profitability.

  • 20 Years in the Industry

emf was founded in 1999 by two electricians, Allen Whitten and his brother Ben who were both passionate about providing the New Zealand industry with the highest quality switchboards and components.

  • On-site Experience

Our unofficial motto of “by sparkies, for sparkies”, is an important part of what emf is. Our design team has “been there, done that”, which is reflected in our switchboards. We like to make the installation and termination as straightforward, fast, and as effortless as possible.

  • Certified Quality Products

Emf is ISO accredited for quality assurance, health and safety and environmentally responsibility.

    • ISO 9001: 2015
    • ISO 14001:2015
    • ISO 45001:2018
    • PAS99:2012

Every product supplied by emf is tested to relevant standards and we can provide SDOCs & testing certificates for your assurance.

  • Tried, Tested & Future Proof

As an electrician himself, Allen wanted to ensure that every product emf introduced to the Australasian market would stand up to our rigorous market expectations. emf carries out real life testing and ISO9001 quality control procedures to ensure that what goes out of our door will last.

  • Delivery Commitment

New Zealand is a long way from Europe and logistics are often difficult. emf is committed to combating this by ensuring we have large stock holdings of everything we sell. If you need something especially sourced from our network of contacts, we can organize air freight as required.

Emf is committed to NEVER providing generic lead times and strictly consolidated shipping.

  • We are Here to Help

Emf’s switchboard design team have wide experience across the electrical and industrial automation industries. They are only a phone call or email away and are more than happy to help you in a solution that works.

What sets us apart from other switchboard builders?

Quality Workmanship.

At emf Switchboards, we are electricians building switchboards with the electrician in mind. Safety, reliability and simplicity are the key features of all our designs. Our aim is minimise installation costs while providing safe and reliable switchboard solutions to match the needs of the site.

The past 20 years of building switchboards has allowed us to design and refine our own switchboard systems so that you, the sparkie, gets the best version of our systems in your switchboard.

  • Masking Panels

     Routered Masking Panels:

    • 2mm White PVC
    • Only cut out the circuit breakers you need.
    • No more pole fillers to fall out.
    • Cut out with a sharp knife.
    • Smooth, shiny PVC that stays clean! (not expanded foam)
    • Fire resistant - does not sustain a flame.
    • Spare cut-outs for controls or RCDs on Main Switch rail.

LC and W series switchboard masking panels are made from punched 1.2mm Zinc plated steel and powdercoated white.

  • Gland Plates

All S Series switchboards and custom switchboards come with 4mm grey PVC gland plates top and bottom unless stated.

    • Aluminium - 3mm thick.
    • Grey PVC - 4.5mm thick.

    These allow for:

    • Easy addition of extra cables.

Double Hinged Insulated Geartrays for S Series metalwork:
    We use a range of different materials for these gear trays;

  • Formica Geartrays

Formica, or Typanel as its sometimes called is an insulated material that works well as a metal substitute gear tray. So well in fact that it has been mistaken as the old asbestos fuse panel it replaced. We use a 3 Axis CNC router to cut out our sheet materials to your specifications

    Black Formica sizes:

    • 4mm
    • 6mm
    • 10mm

For more sheet product options, see our additional services page.
